SEARS, Bill
Bill was born in Brantford ON 29 Jan 1937. He joined the Army in Nov 1956 and started his basic training in Calgary with the QOR of C Depot, but, because is was so cold there, had to finish it in Victoria. As a member of 2 QOR of C he spent 1957-59 in Germany where he completed his infantry training at Sennelager and his PT courses at Aldershot UK. During this period he suffered a broken ankle and thus, on his return to Canada, was posted to London ON as an out of trade recruiter until his ankle healed. He was then sent to Kingston on a remuster to the RC Sigs; however, as a result of his previous PT training with the Brits he was diverted to the Army PTS; and the rest, as they say, is history. He remained on staff at Kingston from 1960-63, then went to Petawawa from 1963-66 (which included a 6 month’s paid holiday to Cyprus with the UN Forces). From there he was posted to NDMC for the period 1966-70 as a Remedial Gymnast (bad job identifier, because most gymnasts I know required it, but did not dole it out!) After his tour as a healer, he was in Shearwater from1970-73, then went to Falconbridge for the period 1973-77 then spent the next year on London. 1978 found him in Trenton for the next three years and in 1981 he was graduated to the CMC System and spent the last seven years of his 32 year career at RRMC. On retirement in 1989 he joined the security staff at the BC Legislature Buildings. In 1991 he found himself working a three day week as a shipper with the Bee Hive Yard Retail Store in Victoria. Bill and Bridgett still live in Victoria. They have two sons (both in the military) and four grand daughters.
