FRASER, George

Born in Belleville, ON. 14 Nov1939, George enlisted in Alexandria, ON. 3 Aug/56 in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals as an Apprentice Soldier. He re-mustered to the Army Physical Training Cadre in Dec 59. During his service he served at Kingston (twice); RMC; Montreal; UN Forces Cyprus; Lahr/Germany; Borden (CFSPER); Gagetown; Cornwallis and Trenton.

George retired from CFB Trenton as the Senior PERI (MWO) in Sep 1987 after 31 years of service. During his retirement Years he has dabbled at Auctioneering; Real Estate; Car Sales and now owns a manufacturing business called SEPTIC-COP, an organic digester for septic systems with national distribution through WAL-MART and other distributors.  Now living in Trenton, ON; a “Grunt” surrounded by “Pigeons!”

A summary of his Decorations/Awards/Achievements are as follows:

  • 1967- Chief of Defence Staff, Citation for Bravery." In recognition of his actions on the 7 August 1967 at Kyrenia, Cyprus when he leapt into the Mediterranean Sea to swim to the aid of a comrade who had encountered difficulties whilst swimming and was in danger of drowning. His initiative and prompt action resulted in a successful rescue". Ed Note: According to George, he thought the guy was the bartender who had the keys to the bar with him.
  • 1972 - Awarded “CD” (took 16 years to get a 12 year medal) ???
  • 1981 - Certified Level 5A, International Amateur Boxing Official;
  • 1984 - Presented the OMM;
  • 1990 - Inducted into The Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame;
  • 1998 - Inducted into The Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame (Boxing) and
  • 2004 - Inducted into The Boxing Ontario Hall of Legends.
